Why does my auto insurance want me to go to a certified shop?

I got approved for repairs with my auto insurance and they want me to go to a certified shop. Are there actual reasons why they want me to go to a certified shop instead of my own choice? Will they cut corners or cheap out on things if I do go to a certified place? Or is it because they give better service to insurance clients if I go?This is my first claim ever so I dont know.

Professionals have the proof that they are capable, and that is displayed in their places of business. Your doctor has a few on his/her wall. So do builders, dentists, plumbers, educators, beauticians, tattoo parlors, restaurants. They got this by attending required classes, passing the tests, buying the tools, and building a reputation. The government recognizes their achievement, and gives them a license to practice their trade. The insurance company does not want some wannabe who took a few classes to take your money and do a slop job on your property. In your own interests, they require you to get the job done correctly, so that the vehicle you're driving is truly drivable. And you wouldn't want to pay for the insurance for a car that had a truly bad repair...the insurance company's funds are to get the vehicle back to where it was before the accident, and they know the certified mechanic shops can do that. And, if you needed, say, your tonsils removed, wouldn't you go to a certified, licensed surgeon? As far as the relationship between the insurance company and the repair shop, the insurance companies usually have some requirements that the shops need to meet.Source(s):Auto suppliers 17 years, recall reimbursements 3 years.

There are several reasons, most likely:1. The shop has adequate insurance, and has filed proof of it with the insurance company2. The shop has agreed to work with the adjusters, so that you don't ever end up paying more of your claim than your deductible3. The shop can accept direct payments, which prevents you from having to deal with the hassle of having your lender sign off on the claims check4. The shop gets a "volume discount" off the labor rate - so they do all the work, at a lower labor rate. Most states, you always have the choice of using your own shop, however, if YOUR shop charges a higher labor rate, you usually have to pay the difference yourself- and if there's a problem with the repair, it's up to YOU to make your own shop make good on it.

Apart from the fact they know the shop and know the job will be done properly they probably get a discount for sending vehicles there. When I needed a repair under the insurance I asked if I could take it to a dealer nearer home as it was more convenient the company agreed so it won't hurt to ask if you may take it elsewhere.
