from experience with my boyfriend, they put you in handcuffs and you have to pay about $100 bucks to get out of jail, then you go to court and have to pay about 500-1000 dollars of fines and court costs. that is just the fisrt offense the second offence i think is jail time, but im not to sure anymore since illinois can be as crooked as a damn politician

According to Mandatory Vehicle Insurance brochure from the Illinois Secretary of State the penalties for not having auto insurance is:* Minimum $500 fine for operating the vehicle without insurance.* Minimum $1,000 fine for driving a vehicle where the registration is suspended for no insurance.Furthermore, the vehicle registration of first-time offenders is suspended until a $100 reinstatement fee is paid along with proof of valid insurance.Repeat offenders may face up to a 4-monrh suspension of vehicle registration, pay a $100 reinstatement fee and provide proof of valid insurance. After 3 such convictions of driving without insurance, must file a proof of financial responsibility (SR22) for one year, or face drivers license suspension.Source(s):http://www.sos.state.il.us/publications/…
