How to rent a car in Mexico and not pay a fortune for insurance?

I went to Costa Rica, my car reservation was ~$300, but I ended up paying ~$600, because they have some kind of mandatory local insurance that is very expensive. Now I am going to Mexico, and I am reading the similar reviews. Some companies ask for written insurance contract from US, other companies tell customers that no out of Mexico insurance ever works in Mexico and they have to purchase it from them.Any tips how to rent a car without paying a fortune? Is this true that US insurance doesn'-t work there? Do I really have to pay for local insurance?

Better ask your insurance agent to know if there is a coverage on thatto be more accurate.Well if they do, you can avoid the charges. But if not, you reallyhave to pay for that one..You may also consider checking this site to know more informationon insurance companies and the same thing on your case :)Hope it helps!Source(s):http://www.247insuranceguideblog.com/

It's true that US auto insurance is not valid in Mexico, and yes, you do have to pay for Mexican insurance. I've never done it, so I don't know the price range, but I'll bet if you Google "mexican auto insurance" you'll find lots of pages that may help you. If you belong to AAA or a similar auto club, they may be able to help you.

Check with your own insurance agent. There may already be some coverage for you with your present policy. Always check with your insurance in a case like this

What would happen to a driver that comes from another state and drives here in California?
Try again. I think there is ONE state that does not require liability insurance for cars. The minimum in most states is MUCH more than $15,000. That wouldn't cover a MINOR accident WITHOUT injuries in most vehicles.

How are credit unions better than ordinary banks?

What comes first when buying a car?
More or less at the same time I guess.First I research a car's specs. I'd say anything from 1990 with low mileage that costs less than a grand is a winner. Corollas or Honda Civic. Then search around for a cheap insurance by checking out all sites.Whatever you do, shop around, there are tons...

Can you insure a vehicle in a different state than it is registered?
When you are a college student living out of state, if you are in student housing then your car needs to be registered and insured thru the state your parents live in-that is your permanent address. However, if you live off campus, you can tag and insure it in the state you go to school
