Forget about the "on-line" companies and get yourself a local agent. If you don't know WHERE to look on line, how are you going to know WHAT to do when you GET there???There is not ONE insurance company that is good for everyone - as there are too many variables to consider!Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement. The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies. An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records and specialize in youthful operators! Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!Feel free to email me direct!Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!Source(s):Texas independent agent for 27+ years

1. Age – Your age will greatly affect the rate of your car insurance. Teenagers and individuals who are just beginning to drive will have higher rates for no reason other than their age. There is nothing you can do about this, as you get older and become a more experienced driver your rates will go down. Although they will go down, they will not stay down. When you reach a certain age your car insurance rates will go back up because you are an elderly driver and your eyes and coordination may not be as effective anymore.2. Auto Insurance Companies – This is a factor which you have control over. Some car insurance companies offer lower rates than others for many reasons. It is up to you to choose which one will benefit you the most both now and in the long run.3. Gender – Whether you are male or female will also affect the rate of your car insurance. This is yet another factor which you have no control over. Females generally have lower car insurance rates because according to insurance companies men are seen as potential dangerous and careless drivers who are more likely to be involved in car accidents.4. Type of Vehicle – As much as we would all love to be driving a shiny silver Porsche Boxter all around town, the insurance rates for these types of vehicles are unreal. If you want your auto insurance rates to be low, I would suggest driving a car with a lower price tag. The more money your car is worth, the higher your car insurance rate will be.5. Driving Violations – This is another factor which you have control over. I know how tempting it is to race your friends the moment you get your license for the first time, but the amount of money you will pay in the long run hardly seems worth it. Any form of ticket you receive can potentially raise the rate of your car insurance. If you want to pay less for car insurance I would suggest abiding by the rules of the road.

It depends on a lot of stuff. The fact your 18 costs more. The car you drive affects the costWhere you live affects the costand most importantly how much coverage you carryIf you drive a car that costs less then $1500 and you do not owe money on the car, then you do not need collision insurance. After all the deductible is $500 and the premium depends on the car's value..Call an insuarnce agent and get a quote.

There are some nice and detailed responses. As other members have said insurance cost depends on many factors. My recommendations-1) First learn the ways you might save on auto insurance. There are many small things that might affect your insurance rate. Read this short article and check list to save on your auto insurance:http://www.kirtokreviews.com/blog/5-step…2) Shop as MANY quotes as possible. Here's the comparison of top auto insurance quote websites. Take an hour or two and get quotes from all of these sites. When you choose 2 or 3 best quotes, call them and tell them that you've gotten a better quote from Company X. Do not hesitate to bargain. You will see, they will be more than happy to decrease your premiums on the phone to get you as a new customer. Here's the free insurance quotes website also:http://www.kirtokreviews.com/auto-insura…I hope this information helps. It is always hard to start, but play smart. Just because you are 18, it doesn't mean that you will be ripped off by insurance companies.Good Luck, Best Wished :)

Go to Progressive's website and run a free quote. It won't be exact, but it will be very close. Insurance costs are based on many factors (outlined in the posts above). Sporty, fast cars are more expensive to insure than sedans or trucks. If you can, try to have your parents add you as a driver under their insurance. It will be much cheaper. My Trans Am came in way under $1000 when I was 18 under my parents' insurance.

Your biggest problem is your age. Until you reach 25 you're screwed. Roughly $800 to $1500 a year or more depending what you haave on it for insurance. 6 cylinders will be more than 4 bangers and V-8's will be a lot more.

that and how long the driver has been driving.... try to get on your parents insurance if they have good records you can pay your portion .. after 3 years they can cut you loose and you can get your own.
