Filing a claim on new insurance after a lapse in coverage?

Filing a claim on new insurance after a lapse in coverage?

We had a 2 month lapse in coverage and 4 days after getting our auto insurance back my husband hit a deer. Our deductible is $500, the quote to get the car fixed is $1500. Just wondering how much our insurance rates will go up, and can the insurance company refuse to pay since we had a lapse in coverage, it is the same insurance company but a new policy.

As long as you have the appropriate coverage (comprehensive), it's covered. A one-time deer loss isn't going to raise your rates.

This claim will be investigated thoroughly and you will be asked a lot of questions. Two month lapse in coverage, a claim 4 days after reinstatement? A coincidence?

1. As long as the policy was in force when your husband hit the deer the company will pay. Now, I am assuming you have comprehensive coverage.2. Because this is not considered a collision you rates will not go up because of this incident.Source(s):...

As long as your insurance was reinstated and in good standing when you hit the deer then it will be a covered loss as long as your carry comprehensive "comp" coverage. This protects you against things like: Fire, Theft/Vandalism, Glass (like stone chips or cracks in your windshield), Animal Collision (like hitting a deer or other animal) & Acts of God (Like hail damage or a tree fallen on your vehicle).Typically your rates will not increase because of a "comp" claim, however anytime you enter a claim on your policy you do run the risk of it increasing. Also, Payment History has an impact on your rates as well so it's important to keep your insurance in force at all times. If you have been with a company for 3 years or longer usually the three things they look at renewal time.. is Claim History, Payment History and Driving Record this is assuming you still have the same vehicle and live in the same area as all of those things also impact your rates.Source(s):Previously worked in the insurance industry.

If you called immediately and they inspected the car prior to reissuing the policy they should cover it, but they may cancel your insurance.

Why Defensive Driving Course Certificate can't be used to get an auto insurance discount in Texas?
You can't use it to get a discount if you used it to dismiss a ticket. And maybe your company just doesn't offer that discount. Not all companies do, so shop around. Texans only need to take the class if they are ordered by a judge to not have a ticket go on their record.I also find it strange...
