Sakura, Have your parents call their insurance company and ask these questions--or you can ask them. You will have to have the policy set up in your own name, as others have said, but the company might give you a small discount as a courtesy to your parents who I assume have been insured with the company for many years.

Certainly, they can pay for it, but the "named insured" must be yourself.Anytime you buy insurance, you must have an "insurable interest" in the property. Renters insurance covers your "contents," meaning all of your personal belongings, your clothes, your furniture, etc. This is stuff YOU OWN. So you must insure it.Renters insurance also covers your LIABILITY, meaning the liability of the "named insured." Your parents already have liability coverage. You are the one who needs liability coverage, not them. So the policy must be in YOUR NAME.The cost of renters insurance is only about Someone

They can't buy it "through their policy", although they could use their agent. If the name on the renters insurance and auto insurance don't match, you won't get that discount. If you are a full time student, away at school full time, your parents' homeowners policy has some built in coverage for you, your liability, and your stuff, in that apartment.
