You should also consider the service in your specific location. I know here in my city we have a whopping zero Liberty Mutual agents. The nearest three agents are 45 minutes away in a neighboring city. However, we have approximately 15 State Farm agents in the city and numerous others located in the small towns surrounding the city. In my case, if coverage and cost were nearly equal, then, I would probably choose State Farm based on access to service. Also, consider the financial side of it: Although right now you say you are only looking for auto and homeowners insurance, at some point your needs may change. State Farm and Liberty Mutual both offer life insurance, but State Farm also offers bank, credit, and investment services. From working in the insurance industry, and avoiding specifics, I can also tell you that I am no stranger to Liberty Mutual denying and/or chipping payments for auto claims and generally being one of the more “difficult” companies to deal with.Just some more things to help you make the best decision. Good luck!

They're both solid companies.State Farm, though, by a WIDE margin, writes the most homeowners and auto insurance policies in the USA, and has the fewest upheld complaints. In my state, Liberty Mutual has the MOST upheld complaints. You should check for complaints, at your state insurance department website.

Go to a broker. The market for auto and home is huge, with hundreds of companies to choose from. For life insurance, insist on Term, not Cash Value.
